Complete Home Company, Buyer's Advantage Company Haband Corporation and "Buyer's Advantage" targets elderly and rips them off

Based on my experience, here are my opinions of Haband Corporation and its associate or subsidiary companies. Haband advertises heavily in magazines and other publications especially read by senior citizens. They offer cheesy apparel at low prices using catchy advertising.

My elderly mother purchased a sweater from them and upon receiving it discovered its inferior quality. She returned it at her expense and soon after received a check in the US Mail. Thinking it was a refund for the returned sweater she cashed the petty check. The tiny print on the check and accompanying information was especially small and difficult for her to read.

The check however was not a refund but instead an automatic sign-up for "Buyer's Advantage" in connection to Haband. This was noted as an annual charge to her Visa card for $149.99 and it was charged twice. This was noted on her Visa statement. My mother attempted to communicate with Haband to get the matter cleared up but was unsuccessful. I then sent Haband a letter but never received a response. I then charged it back through the credit card company as fraud.

I feel that Haband Corporation is a deceitful company who targets the elderly and others of lowered cognitive skills. They bait customers with petty checks and then abuse them by charging outlandish fees to their credit cards for a non-service. When questioned they do not respond.

I do not think that the sign-up check arrived by coincidence but rather at a time that my elderly mother was expecting a refund. Haband's lack of response is further evidence that they are fully aware of this lucrative scam. Many seniors have a difficult time reading tiny print, communicating, and fixing accounting problems, many people do not scrutinize their statements—Haband takes full advantage of this fact.

I would wholeheartedly recommend that that consumers conduct no business with this company. If such a charge is found on your credit card, even after signing such a check, copy this letter, send it to your credit card company, and charge it back through the credit card company. Also file a complaint with the Attorney General of your state.
