Clearing business through Marquis Fulfillment Agency, LLC Person came to door stating they were selling magazines to earn points to go on a trip Europe

While visiting my mom in Fairview, OR a young man in his 20's knocked on the door. He stated he was from a school somewhere along the East Coast. He said he was traveling 11 states selling magazines to get points to go to Europe. He was very well spoken, convincing and full of smiles.in explaining his travels thus far he said when he was in Idaho he wore an Oregon State University shirt. He said the people in Idaho were not to friendly with him wearing his OSU shirt. He shared with us how many points he had raised so far and how many he had to go. He stated the sale was also tax deductible. I corrected him that if a good was received it could not be deducted. At one point I questioned what the receipt stated "company not in any way related to a non-profit or charitable organization, donation, sponsorship or scholastic program of any kind" vs what he told me in that he would receive points to earn a trip to Europe. He had a convincing explanation. So a check was written for one magazine subscription for $45. Unfortunately I found out too late about this scam and the check has been cashed. Oh if only I had gone with that initial gut feeling and not fallen for his convincing stories.
