Price Gouging

I applied for electric service from the utility company snapping shoals. I was charged a 400.00 security deposit, plus and additional 40.00 for account establishment fee and lets not forget the 10.00 membership fee. When the first bill came I noticed charges that had nothing to do with the electric bill.

Power cost adjustment = 1.87
service charge element = 7.92
newton county taxes = 2.16
I watched these rates steadily increase to outrageous amounts. The very next month power cost adjustment = 9.12

On my most recent bill 3/4/10
power cost adjustment = 25.24
service charge element (I don't know what the hell this is) 12.50
newton county taxes = 13.87

When you call the company, they give you the most outrageous explanation which makes absolutely no sense. According to them, they have not raised their rates to go easy on their consumers, but the price of electricity which they purchase from another contractor keeps going up so they have to continually adjust the rates. What I find most disturbing is when you contact the attorney generals office in Georgia, they claim they have no authority over the utility companies. So basically they are a law unto them selves, free to abuse and oppress the citizens. Who in their right mind can justify tacking on an additional 51.61 and lets not forget a late fee of 10.00 unto your electric bill. I have had it with Georgia and its rampant exploitation, abuse and parasitic ways to its citizen. As soon as I'm able to save up enough money I will leave this wretched state.
