I recently received a credit card billing showing a billing from CIC Credit Monitor Service in the amount of $79.95. Upon receipt of this billing I called the telephone number on the statement and talked to a company service rep.
The person I talked to indicates that on July 8, I signed up for a free credit report with their web site. They subsequently billed me for 2002 and 2003. I can assure you that I did not make the contact with these folks as I was on vacation that week of 2002.
I told them that I wanted the account cancelled immediately back to July 8, and was informed that they could only give me a pro-rata credit for the amount billed this year only. They have no records that I made the original contact, they cannot prove that I ever received a report or accessed their web site, and I want my money back.
When I informed the lady that I would report them to the Attorney General in California, her attitude changed dramatically and I was told that a cancellation was done on a pro-rata basis and I could expect nothing more.
