Cristi Mitchell Shumate Wells is running a Puppy Mill in Lebanon, Mo. She sold me a very sick Irish Setter who lived to be just shy of seven years old. At 10 months she was diagnosed with cushings disease and spondylosis. Two congenital illnesses that do not run in Irish Setters. I got a call from the Red Setter rescue group that confirmed she ran a puppy mill with over 150 dogs on site that were caged outdoors to strictly breed for money. Cristi surrendered four setters in 2008 to the rescue group. Two of them were my dogs parents. The mom was eight and she looked ancient. Terrified and emmaciated she was surrendered with her daughter the daughters pup and my dogs dad. They were all traumatized and in bad condition. They were all afraid of people. The rescue group let me know they had purchased other setters that she had bred while attending the Top of the Ozarks dog auction in Heartville Mo. These setters had underbites like bull dogs. Another sign of really bad breeding. I saw her USDA reports that indicated there were dogs that were covered in Mud and Water with no where to sit. Dogs that were matted, flies around the welping cages, holes in fences etc. I think I have pretty much filled people in on what this breeder is about.
She advertises herself as a three acre, lovely, family run kennel. Buyers beware she is a thief and greedy. I do believe she will breed any dog no matter what condition it is in.
