People's Lifestyle
Misleading advertising of catalogue contents

Shops, Products, Services

I paid the $48 for their catalogue, advertised in local newspaper as "companies are desperately seeking individuals to assemble products at home". Catalogue was as advertised; it's what happened next that I'm complaining about. (1) A month after catalogue arrived, I began to receive a flood of spam, unsolicited offers, Ponzi schemes, scams, semi-pornographic ads, etc. ALL HAD SAME TYPO ERROR IN ADDRESS, meaning all came from the same forwarded mailing list. Six months later it's still arriving in mail. (2) You would do well to ask, why are these companies so desperate to find assemblers of their products? Solicitations for sewing may be legit, being a guy I responded only to wood and metal working. One company wanted people to paint wooden eagles, but no details about size or who pays postage. Another wanted people to make wooden pull toys from patterns and claimed 300% profits or thereabouts. But claim was based on NO cost of wood materials (???) and allowed $1.50 or so for mailing. My calculation of true costs reduced profits to about 30% ($2.00 per hour). I mailed both companies asking for details, no reply from either one. A third company sought assemblers of electronic circuit boards. Having built ham radios successfully, I was attracted: but had to send $50 for a "test kit" to prove you could do it. I couldn't, and decided that success requires a micro-soldering gun with a temperature-controlled tip, something very few individuals have. And even if you are successful, you'd get $3.50 per unit which would require an hour to build. So while technically People's Lifestyle delivered a catalogue as promised, it's what happened after getting that catalogue that made me file this complaint.
