World Moving Services
Currently holding my furniture hostage

Shops, Products, Services

I contacted World Moving Services to provide an estimate for a move across country. My new employer would provide reimbursement for expenses based on the lowest of 3 estimates. Unfortunately, World Moving had the lowest estimate. The estimate was based on 2000 lbs as I had a small one bedroom apartment and the total cost would be $1482.00 plus change.

I initially tried to cancel my contract with them, after paying a $620.00 deposit as they misinformed of the date of delivery. A Thomas Lee told me that the mover could have my furniture delivered within a week despite having to give a 3 week window on the contract. I was told when I tried to cancel that I would forfeit my deposit since I hadn't given them 5 days notice and hadn't written a certified letter with my intention to cancel.

My furniture was picked up by a driver from MTL Transportation on Nov. 15. En route to the destination a rep from MTL left a voicemail for me stating the price had jumped from $1482.00 to 2662.00 my $620.00 deposit since my furniture weighed in over 4600 lbs. She said they would deliver on the 19th of November. On Nov 18th she called again stating the driver was "45 miles away and that I needed to have the $2662.00 ready to pay the driver". When I called her I received a full voice mailbox.

I spoke to a Sarah Bradshaw at World Moving who told me I indeed would have to pay the inflated amount and I told her I couldn't and wouldn't as there was definitely fraud involved as there was no possible way the weight of my furniture had increased that much. She began to read off the inventory sheet and many of the items weren't even things I had listed. She told me she would have to "get with the driver" as she was unable to read the list clearly. I told her I would pay the remainder as that is what their contract stated. It also states that this contract shall be binding.

As of today my furniture is, I am told, still on the truck and I am waiting to hear from World Moving for a re-weigh of my furniture. I was told I would have to pay the $2662.00 upfront and if the weight came under their estimate I would get a refund. If I paid cash I could get the refund that day. If I paid in any other form they had 30 days to return the refund.

World Moving Services misrepresented their services and will not stand by their contract. They are holding my furniture and I am currently in an apartment with an air mattress and a lamp only. These people have no idea the magnitude of their actions and I will pursue this matter to my satisfaction.
