Bought Xerox M940 Workcenter on 9/24/01 for $99 and 2-year extended warranty for $19. What a deal! August of next year called about lines and smudges on my printouts.
Told to call Xerox on long-distance toll number because was still under manufacturer warranty. Xerox happily charged me $35 for new printheads. January, five months later, realized could no longer print in color and began receiving F952 errors—spooler subsystem errors.
I dealt with it until summer when I had time to call "Max Assurance"! I was told I'd have to replace the printhead again, again out of my own pocket before they would do anything. "We need to make sure this isn't the problem." Are you seriously telling me you're taking a trial-and-error approach to my problem and charging me to do it?
"This was a consumable part issue and not covered by warranty." Who has ever replaced printheads twice in a year! So now I'm supposed to spend another $35? I basically purchased the printer twice! What's the point of a warranty if it doesn't help with real problems.
Basically unless my printer completely blows up, I'm screwed! Can't wait to buy another Xerox printer from Office Max. This time I'll get a five year warranty from GE-Zurich and their Max Ass (urance) program...
My advice—go with HP. Buy at Staples and don't get a warranty. This Xerox product was not built well. Extremely dissapointed in customer service of both Office Max and GE-Zurich. Warranties are worthless.
