Running presss books published books has anyone had a book published? How do you know if you are getting true royalties, i got bupkiss

My family had a book published, it seemed to be selling well locally and is sold worldwide. We received a advance for 8000$ and first royalty check for 2300$.
I know book is still doing well, but last check was under 20$, there is no way of getting an accounting of how many books were actually sold and they tell you nothing, is this typical for book sales. How can you trust them, they can tell you anything they want.
