Comcast
Telephone Voice Modem Rental Ripoff

Shops, Products, Services

Comcast advertises telephone service as part of the heavily advertised "triple play" promotion. This is VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) that works with their high speed internet service. This Comcast telephone service requires a "telephone modem" to work.

On November 1st Comcast is raising the rental price of their "BC Voice Modem Rental" from $36.00 per year to $60.00 per year! This is nearly a 100% increase.

This is not an optional increase, and there is no purchase option for this modem. Comcast will not allow modems purchased from another source to be used with their service. This is pure greed and profit driven. The actual costs of all electronics has decreased, not increased. This is simply a run-around of the regulators of this industry.

I for one will not pay this increase, and will switch to another provider of VOIP services such as Vonage. The $60.00 per year rental fee that Comcast is charging will pay for more than two months of free service using Vonage.
