Unexplained Charges on purchase

When purchasing a case of oil, an additional charge over and above the posted price was added to the bill. This charge was listed as "oil reimburs".

When questioning the checkout clerk to explain what it was, she said it was similar to the "deposit" paid on car batteries. When I took the receipt to the customer service, the clerk said it was tax added on oil. When I requested a manager to explain it, at first she said it was recycling fee to dispose of old oil. I then asked where I should return the used oil for a refund and she said they do not accept used oil. She then said it was a tax. I explained that if it was a tax, it would be listed as such on the receipt.in addition this extra charge was "taxed" in the sales tax. I asked for a definitive explanation as to who gets the money. Was it Sam's club or the govt. They did not know. A copy of the receipt was made and "forwarded to corporate" for an explanation.

Check your receipts when making purchases at Sam's Club. There is some funny business going on.
