Hidden and outrageous fees. The commercials and the website are very slippery

Shops, Products, Services

I signed up for the "Free Credit Report" (i.E. "free" for seven days, then it's $14.95), which only included one report from one of the credit reporting bureaus. Then, the website gives you the option of paying extra for all three reports. So, I went ahead and paid the supposedly "safe" Triple Advantage fee of 29.95, which would grant me access to all three credit reports. What they don't want you to figure out until after it's too late is that you'll be charged both the $29.95 fee and the $14.95 fee seven days later.

The website leads you to believe that the Triple Advantage fee has negated the other fee, since you're paying for all three reports rather than just one, but it doesn't negate it, and suddenly over a period of two weeks you discover two outrageous fees on your bank statement. Of course, when you call in to complain, they're all too eager to cancel your account for you, because that's how they make their money: from one-time patrons who don't realize they've been had until it's too late.
