Now, this is something that I have been meaning to do for a long time. I am no longer with the company so I finally feel free to be able to stand up and warn others about this horrible company from the inside.
First things first, most people who join over the phone are immediately ripped off because they swindle you into purchasing an even more expensive contract which is even harder to get out of. They offer a thirty day money back guarantee but what you aren't told is that they make you wait up to two weeks for your refund. Some people have called in and even wanted to cancel immediately but they are not allowed to. Usually they are told the account has been cancelled, but trust me, it hasn't. Then if you do not specifically ask them to cancel the website they give you - which is a cookie cutter piece of crap - they will continually take money out of your account.
Now, as far as those who happen to be persuaded by the "coaches" who aren't anything but salesman, their job is to sell you an expensive website which is in the upwards of 5,000 dollars which comes with crappy merchandise in which you will have a difficult time selling and paper gift cards which do nothing for you as well. And don't even think about telling the coaches that you do not want the website, they'll never speak to you again unless you are willing to spend money.
I am a former employee, I worked there for a year. I had to find the strength to come to work and rip off perfectly good, hard working people to make a commission check so that I myself might be able to keep my job. I have talked to people over the phone who have begged and pleaded with me for refunds, who have threatened suicide, who have had money taken from their account without permission only to hear me say " Okay, I'll look into it".
I hated that place, not because of the work enviornment (which is full of 19-23 year old children) but because I watched people sit back and laugh at the amounts of money that they had taken from people. I watched supervisor congratulate some 18 year old for talking an elderly woman into spending thousands of dollars on merchandise and catalogs which will do nothing for her, and sat in meetings with a management staff of complete idiots who smoke marijuana in the parking lot with the employees and figure out ways to to get "you" to spend all of your money.
And when it's all said and done, when the gift cards haven't been sold, and the customers have not come to spend money, they still don't care, because for 65 years SMC has made a living at taking people for all they have and celebrating in a small-minded, horrific place of employment, where the supervisors smoke weed with the employees, the managers are imbeciles and the good ol customer service representatives feel no remorse. Because when it's all done, SMC is a rip off and I urge anyone who has even considered joining this horrible scam to please reconsider.
Please ignore the infomercial that beams into your livingroom at 2 am and by all means, if you have joined cancel. Send the kit back, get a tracking number from ups or usps so you can track the kit, and thank God that you got out while you could.
P.S. This is the truth, I would testify to all of this if I could. And to those that I have taken money from and made cry and tremble over the phone, you have my deepest and most sincere apologies. Jah Bless.
