Won't honor warranty

More of the same from Cricket Wireless.

My son bought a phone from them and was told that it had a one year manufacturers warranty when he purchased it.

He was also told that it would be a good idea to purchase insurance for it also. So he did, thinking that it would also cover things that the warranty didn't.

Well, he had the phone for a little over a month when it quit working properly. Now it only works on speaker phone.

He took the phone back to the place where he originally bought it because it came with a one year warranty, thinking that surely they would stand behind their product. They didn't! The agent at the counter told him that he would have to take it to another store on the other side of town. My son asked why he had to do that when he had purchased the phone from them?

The agent then told him that they couldn't do anything about it at that store and that it would have to be sent off to be fixed.

By this time I was becoming more and more aggravated with the situation so I asked the man if my son would get a replacement phone while his was being fixed and he told me no.

At this time my son spoke up and said to the man, "But I have insurance on it" The agent told him that that didn't matter and that he would probably have to pay for the a deductable and shipping costs also.

By this time I was about as aggravated as I could be watching this man treat my son this way so I asked him very bluntly, "Why don't you just stand behind the products you sell"? The agent then said to me that If I had a car and it got wrecked? I would call the insurance company wouldn't I? I then explained to him that my son's phone didn't get wrecked, it quit working properly and if I bought a car that quit running I wouldn't call the insurance company, I would take it back to the person that I bought it from.

I also noticed while I was in the store that all of their transactions were done on a laptop computer, they had no business phone, only a cell phone and no cash register. They were the equivalent to a booth at the flea market.

Well a couple of days later I decided to take it upon my self to visit the other store that they were sending my son to just to check it out and see what he was going to have to expect before walking in there.

I decided to go in and pretend that I was interested in a phone.

The staff was very friendly to me at first. I asked about a couple of their phones and then asked about the warranty that came with them.

The agent told me that it came with a one year manufacturers warranty.

The way he presented it was very attractive making it sound as though if anything went wrong it would be fixed, no problem.

So I then brought up the subject of my son's phone not working and he told me that it would cost anywhere between 45.00 and 85.00 dollars to have it fixed.
I then asked him why it would cost anything if it came with a warranty? He told me that it had to do with shipping charges and all that.

Now I'm not a rocket scientist but I know enough to know that shipping charges don't cost anywhere near 45.00to 85.00 dollars for shipping. I've sent a cell phone through the mail before and it cost me a total of 2.50 2.00 extra for insurance that I chose my self.

I would highly recommend to anyone not to get involved with Cricket wireless service. Their Insurance is about as useless as their warranty.
