Con-artists, magazine subscriptions, change names

I was a student at MTSU in Murfreesboro, Tn when a very pushy sales-girl made her way around my dorm trying to sell magazine subscriptions for a free trip with points, etc. This was around the later part of January.

Some of my friends had already bought from her down the hall, so I decided that it might actually be safe to order a subscription to a X-Box magazine.

After I paid, her attitude changed, and I had a lurking suspicion that I had been scammed.

I looked up the company name "Southern Circulation" (the name on the receipt) and saw that many people had not received their magazines... Or refunds for that matter.

I was unable to get ahold of anyone at this company for a few days and by then they said there was nothing they could do (even though I paid via credit card) and that my magazines should arrive by late May or early June.

I have still not received any magazines from them and the website has been taken down.

After doing some diligent research for a documentary project I am working on, I stumbled upon Mrs. Fussell again running a new company called "Veritas Communications."

It's more than coincidence that this company has the same sloppily built website and offers the same information that Southern Circulation did, only changing their phone number and address.

I tried calling David Fussell to get a refund for magazines he and his wife failed to deliver from their last magazine selling endeavor and even tried to get some information about why Southern Circulation shut down.

He was openly hostile the entire time and hung up on me accusing me of lying when I told him how I got his phone number... It was listed on his website and on a usacomplaints.com report. Why would a president be so hostile to a customer?

I keep hearing about people wanting to do a class action lawsuit, but these scammer people are hard to track down.

If I can't get my $40 dollars back, I'd like to at least keep other people from falling prey to these slick con-artists.

I'm currently working on a small documentary film project about the magazine con-artist industry. I wonder who the headliner will be?
