Never received product or services or requested refund

A young man came to my door saying he was in college getting a degree in marketing and his project was to sell magazines.By selling a certain number of magazines, he could earn a trip to France. I purchased a 2 year subscription to a magazine. A couple days later, I decided it was too much money and I didn't really need a subscription. I followed the instructions on my receipt to cancel by mailing in my request to cancel. A couple weeks later, I got a letter from them asking for a front and back copy of the cashed check that I wrote them. I made a two copies and mailed two separate requests from two separate envelopes and on two different days. Several weeks later, I still hadn't heard form them so I called the number on my receipt. A young lady answered and said they did not get either copy. She said I could fax it so I faxed it and she said she would get a check out to me.

However, it is now almost 3 months later and I still have not received anything. And unfortunately, I can no longer find the receipt with their information.
