This complaint is about the definition of "properly packed" items as it relates to moving. On July 21st I had my property picked up from a storage location by FastMove Vanlines. The actual movers were quite courteous and I appreciated them. I had planned ahead and my items were "properly packed" according to what I understood as the definition of that term. However, I learned on that day that no items could be left in drawers (something that was not explained to me) and apparently that "properly packed" meant that every single piece of furniture had to be wrapped in padding and/or shrink wrap. They charged me an extra 919.00 for this service.

I complained about it at the time, however, I had to move on that date. I had to initial the contract for this or else the move would not have happened.

When I spoke with the main office at 408-526-9901 or toll free number 877-682-9901, and made an official complaint about this hidden charge, I was basically told there was nothing they could do about it. I asked for the manager to speak with the owner and the manager said that she would speak with the owner and call me back, but I never heard back from her.

Also, we agreed on a delivery date of August 12, which I rushed to make, but my goods have still not been delivered. When I called on August 12, I was told that this was the "first possible date of delivery" and that they had up to 21 days after that fact. I read the fine print in the contract, and it does reflect this 21 day period, however, when I spoke with the company on the phone, they asked me when I would like my goods to be delivered. I told them August 12th, and they responded "well that is the first possible date of delivery." There was no further discussion that they had up to 21 days and so I was expecting my goods to be delivered on the 12th.

When they were not, I called the office to find out what was going on, and asked again about the 919.00 extra charge. I was told at that time there was nothing they could do about the charge and that they were sorry for the miscommunication about the delivery date. It is now August, 31 and I have not heard back from them as to when my belongings will, in fact, be delivered.

I start my new job next week, have no furniture, only a few clothes, and am living in an almost empty apartment.

My sister and brother in law flew out here to help me get settled and were unable to do this since my furniture and other belongings have not arrived. This mistake has not only cost me, but family members time and money.

I have had to purchase several basic items in order to just "get by" until my other belongings arrive. This has cost me time, stress, and money.

I really want the disputed 919.00 to be forgiven in total, but mostly I just want my home to be put back together!

I am a pretty reasonable and friendly person. This has just been a fiasco that I don't know how to handle. It stems largely from, I think, the lack of communication about "hidden costs" on the part of the moving company.

As I said, the actual movers were quite nice and did a great job loading everything up so they should not be blamed for this. It is a management issue.
