Hi. We received what looked like a personal letter in a regular sized envelope, postmarked from Canada.inside was a Cashier's Check in the amount of $1,950 drawn on the Northstar Bank in Denton, TX. Northstar appears to be legitimate.

However, There was also a letter from Allied Consultants signed by Lauren Green, Human Resources Manager. The letter congratulated us on being selected to be essentially a 'secret shopper'. The instructions were to deposit the check, then call to confirm the deposit. Then, within 48 hours, we're supposed to wire $1,400 to "Patrick Broos" in Houston TX. We're also supposed to spend $50 at Sears and $40 at WalMart. We get to keep the rest.

I called the number and a very groggy, almost intelligible male voice on the other end confirmed the letter but was very vague in his answers. We then did a reverse directory on the phone number and found that it was actually in Northridge, CA. We also Googled the address on Allied and the 1880 South 44 Street address in Fulton, MI doesn't exist.

After reseraching, we can see that we would be depositing a check, wiring money to "Patrick Broos" and the check would never really clear. We'd be out some money.

I've read other letters from folks who fell for this and lost alot more.

I'm glad we did our research. Now, how do we take action... Not all folks, especially the elderly or uneducated, will do the kind of research we did.in these troubled economic times, it's understandable how someone would want to believe that they had just received a great gift!!! This stuff preys on hope.

How do we get these b@$%ards!!!
