Mails Out Bills Late, Overcharging, Sends Shut Off Notices Despite Payment Being Made, Payments Not Being Credited, RIP OFFS

I am a disabled person on a fixed income who had previously made payment arrangements with Equitable and had kept on terms with them. Then not only did they start mailing out bills very late in the month about 7-14 days before the due date, the last two bills, I was never credited for my payments, which I can clearly prove I have made, since the checks were cashed.

Recently, I had received a shut off notice after making a recent payment, which again wasn't credited to my last bill.in addition, I hadn't even gotten my new bill yet before this notice was sent out! Also, the last two bills were so high, I had to forgo getting medications and cut down on groceries in order to pay it, but it was paid.

It turned out I was indeed being overcharged on my last three bills. I called the company to complain about this, the shut off notice and my payments not being credited—in addition to bills being sent out so late—and they were no help at all. The person on the phone actually treated me like a common criminal that was trying to rip THEM off-ha!

From there, I contacted both the Better Business Bureau and the Public Utility Commission and filed complaints with both. I guess this company expects people to back down and accept being overcharged and we as consumers should have no rights at all—WRONG! I stood up to them and filed complaints with as many people as possible in addition to making a report here.

Thanks to my efforts, I have gotten help from the BBB and the PUC. The PUC also told me about special programs for low income families and seniors, something Equitable "forgot" to do. This is how greedy these scam artists are. Don't take any mess from these people—the more everyone knows about them and their unethical practices, the better!
