Bait and Switch CON ARTISTS

We found National Relocation Services via 123movers.com while looking for a moving company to move us from Alabama to Los Angeles.

From the beginning, a slick, smarmy salesman named Chris Michalski at extension 243, made it sound like everything was easy and the price they quoted was right. He estimated our total weight to be 4800 lbs. And when we pressed him to read back the list of items, he refused and dodged the question, and wouldn't give a straight, honest answer. Big RED FLAG! He quoted us a price of $3322.46 with a deposit of $1040.78, which we paid.

When they sent us the contract, more than half of the items we described to Chris were not included on the inventory. The bulk of our items is in the form of boxes of books, but there was only ONE carton of books listed (and 13 bookshelves). When we called him back, he said he "didn't remember us telling him those items." We asked him repeatedly to read back the items he wrote down and he REFUSED TO DO IT, and now he says he doesn't remember us asking him. I mean really, he thought we needed 13 bookshelves for one small carton of books??? Lying jerk.

In the contract, it says that the "not to exceed" estimate is only valid if "the customer provides Nationwide with an accurate description of the items to be moved" and that's clearly how they rip you off. They refuse to take down an accurate description from the customer in the first place!

So today, a John Niewhoehner who is supposedly from "Quality Assurance" calls and tells us that Chris underestimated our weight and that the $1040.78 which we paid him was not enough and we would have to pay an additional $1200 on the deposit. Today is Tuesday and our contracted date to move was this coming Sunday (conveniently on the fifth day before the date — the date by which you have to cancel in order to receive a refund — today he calls trying to panic us into giving him more money).

We explained that we have a binding contract and they are on the hook for the amount they contracted for. John didn't want to honor that contract and tried to push us to do a new deal for a dramatically different amount.

Smelling a BIG RAT, we cancelled the job and stopped payment on the funds. Fortunately, they only set a pending transaction on our credit card that they don't bill until the day they pick up, so they didn't get our money.

I WISH WE HAD READ THIS WEBSITE BEFORE WE CONTRACTED WITH THEM, it would have saved us a lot of trouble!

The bottom line is that NATIONWIDE RELOCATION SERVICE is a broker and a den of con artists and liars! They are not a moving company and their sales staff will lie to you about that simple fact.

If you do business with this company you can count on getting ripped off! Avoid national relocation services at all costs!!
