100 dollar hold on top of actual gas charge at pump

I stopped for gasoline here and put my purchase on my debit card. They put through the actual 20.01 charge for the gasoline and also a 100 dollar hold! I tried to contact the store but could not find a phone number so I contacted the corporate office instead via their online complaint form. I gave them 3 business days to answer me - they never called. I still have a 100 dollar hold on my card causing me a negative balance and many hassles. This morning I filed a complaint with the BBB and I am trying to get together an active campaign to stop this practice.

Allegedly stations are doing this due to the higher number of drive offs - but lets get serious. If I was going to drive off with gasoline do you really think I'd be stupid enough to stick my credit card in the machine? This is an utterly ridiculous and unnecessary policy that should be stated CLEARLY UP FRONT on any and all gasoline pumps at any station that engages in this ridiculous practice.
