Globe Van Lines of California Pricing Ripoff Thieves Gorillas

I hired Globe Van Lines in November for a move from Los Angeles to New York City. I had gotten 8 quotes from movers and Globe was in the middle of the pack. I had recommendations from people who have used them.

When they finally tallied the charges, the price nearly tripled from their original estimate. The shipment was supposed to going to storage in Newark, New Jersey for easy delivery. One thing after another prevented me from getting everything delivered within a month after my arrival so I was told that everything was fine and would stay in storage in Newark until I was ready to take delivery (the monthly cost is exorbitant compared with other facilities).

When the time came for delivery of the goods, I found out that the shipment never left California in the first place! It was never put in storage in Newark as I had been told that it was. When it came time to finally bring the shipment to New York, I requested 24-48 hours notice BEFORE delivery was made so that I could make local arrangements for storage (to get my possessions out of their care, custody and control). I was called at 7:00 P.M. On a Monday evening and the driver said that he was going to make delivery at 8:00 A.M. The next morning. I was starting a new job that morning and could not meet the driver so Globe arranged for a local agent to store the shipment.

I finally (after 13 months) took delivery on Saturday. It seems that the third page of inventory is missing. Someone tried to be clever and write some of the items from that missing third page at the bottom of page two BUT they made some very big mistakes. They listed one item number three times (and incorrectly marked it as PBO when it was not). They have "lost" a queen and a full size bed (mattress and box springs), a bed frame (one was delivered) and the rest are boxes, one of which contains a stereo that had just been purchased and was never removed from the box! How in the world does someone "lose" two mattresses and box springs?

I have contacted Globe in California (not knowing that they had moved but found out the hard way) and they are "looking into it", they will "check the warehouse" to see if the missing items are there.

All in all, I would not recommend using Globe Van Lines. They low-ball estimates and are unreliable. Perhaps the ICC should withdraw their license. The Attorney General in California, and the State Department of Consumer Affairs should be notified of their business practices.
