Phone Warranties a Ripoff! Digital to EVDO Network Causes Phone to Not Work Right!

I bought my phone for $250 outright so no contract. About a month ago, Alltel introduced EVDO in my area. Suddenly, the great service went to hell. Dropped calls, dialing without any audio, people I call say I am hard to hear (it breaks up), and voice mails show up whenever they like—sometimes 2-3 days later. Tech support was extremely rude about it. The Samsung Hue is the phone. (Digital shows a little blocked D on your phone. EVDO shows a block with EV in it.)

So, I went in on 06-18 to see about the problem. They'll replace the phone BUT, if it is a water or physical damage issue to the phone, you'll pay for the "refurbished" phone they provide (2-5 days later) at $165 (tax I bet). A brand new Hue is only $214 tax. Samsung gets to examine the phone, not Alltel, so you don't know if they are honoring the warranty or not. I blame Alltel since they sold me the phone not Samsung. This is the "warranty" not insurance. See below on my insurance information.

I've had others say the change from Digital to the new EVDO caused all kinds of problems with their cellphone too. An Alltel billing rep admitted he had the same problem with the switch from Digital to EVDO; his clock went haywire.

Now, the phone can download updates to software, etc. But calls no longer work. But, tech support says, "Phone is bad."

Also, the "insurance" is a total ripoff. You get a refurbished phone NOT a new one for $50. Make more than 2 claims in a year and Alltel no longer wants you or the insurance gets cancelled.

Remember, Verizon Wireless is buying Alltel now so you'll get stuck with VZ Wireless extremely bad customer service by the end of the year.
