Uses high pressure to get cash now!

I scheduled a move of a few furniture pieces from one location to another location 1 away. I was quoted a $280.00 flat rate by Vicki, the business owner's wife, which was reasonable.

She assured me a hard copy of the contract would go out via snail mail that day, then changed her mind and offered it to be emailed to me. I accepted this.

When I received no such email, I contacted her back & she claimed to have sent it to the wrong address. I repeated the address for her, and she agreed to resend it. The night prior to the move, I still had no contract. When I called again, the following was finally sent to me:
Hi Andrea!

"This letter is to confirm your move date for June 11th at approximately 1:30 P.M. We are sending our two man team with our truck at the flat rate price of 280.00. This price includes the truck, labor, padding, dollies, strapping, and wardrobe boxes for your hanging closet clothing. We are also fully indsured and bonded.
We will place all fiurniture in your new home exactly where it needs to be. If you should have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me at 1-800-843-1134.
Have a great day. See you tommorrow.

Vicki"

On June 11, the movers were late by 1 hour. I had spoken with them and explained that I only had a small window to complete this move, and was assured it would be timely. I was not happy about them being late, but the said to me when they called "what can you do - we'll be there, just wait."

When they arrived, they started to disassemble the dinning room hutch for the move, while another guy had me sign contracts. That's when they hit me with the "we only accept cash... Can you get to an ATM right away?" The owner claims his business is "cash-only" and that he is not set up for a credit card.

During the 15-20 minute interaction, I was yelled at by the owner who even had the nerve to claim my credit card was probably no good, and he would not be paid. He even got Vicki on the phone and claimed she told me "cash only"... She did not.

There was considerable high pressure from 2 of the 3 men present to get "cash now" while they continued to move things around. They knew I was in a tight spot with the move, and this was the last opportunity to get certain items moved... Which of course further fueled them to tell me to find an ATM. When I told them I would only pay with credit card, and suggested that they should go. They told me they wanted cash only, and sped off yelling at me.

Although I lost an entire day over this issue, and they left my hutch in the middle of the room, slightly taken apart, I am glad that they did not get my items on the truck!!!

They never did provide documents to prove that they were bonded or insured, and I never got an actual contract. For all I know, if anything got on that truck, it would have been held hostage until I delivered cash, and if it was damaged - I would've had no recourse!
