"Leo MIller"
"Leo Miller" Selling SICK puppies in Chronicle and using fake names HOUSTON

Shops, Products, Services

My family planned, prepared and decided it was time to expand. After researching the best breed for our family, we found what we thought to be a legitimate dog breeder in the Houston Chronicle newspaper and contacted him to buy a Maltipoo puppy.

The breeder, Leo Miller, gave us a health guarantee with our signed contract to purchase a 7 week old Maltipoo female for $350. Mr. Miller seemed very nice and thorough and even offered to deliver the puppy to us on our side of town. He provided shot records, parent information and seemed legit.

Within 2 days, we had our new puppy at the Emergency Vet, in the middle of the night. After a $900 vet bill, the "breeder" took the puppy to treat her, as to save us further expense. After not hearing from Mr. Miller for 4 days, we were finally able to reach him to find out that our little baby had not made it. He attributed her death to a stomach virus and simultaneous respiratory infection. Mr. Miller insisted that she had been treated by a retired veterinarian, who worked exclusively for breeders from his home. Although we were never allowed to speak to the mystery vet, Mr. Miller promised us that no more puppies had been reported ill, even though all of her symptoms were "Text Book" Distemper.

After refusing to refund our money and promising there was not a contagious disease among the puppies, Leo Miller offered us the pick of the litter that was ready the next week. Anxious to bring happiness back into our home, we agreed. Again, the puppy was ill within the weekend. We continued to treat our precious NEW Maltipoo for 8 more weeks, missing work, visiting the vet 3 times a week, giving her several different medications several times a day. We spend approximately $2,000 treating her and even had to force feed and water her.

As the illness progressed and we watched her suffer with seizures, we opted to euthanize the 3 month old puppy. The vet's diagnosis from blood tests concluded Distemper in the neurological stage. Our veterinarian believes the puppy contracted the Distemper virus before she arrived to our home.

Now, Leo Miller is unable to be reached, but continues to advertise new puppies every couple of weeks! This man has to be stopped! He is running a miniature puppy mill at a home in San Antonio, as well as dealing the animals from his apartment in Southwest Houston. He told us, on different occasions, that he had many other breeds in San Antonio that he could get for us.

Distemper is extremely contagious, and every single professional that we have spoken to in Animal Medicine has confirmed that both puppies came to us with the virus. These professionals also assured us that other puppies from the breeder most certainly have the Distemper virus as well. I can only imagine all of the families who have been through what ours has. Not only does my family have holes in our hearts from losing two puppies, we have unfortunately replaced the joy with hate, distrust, and fear to bring another puppy into our family. Not to mention the financial burden, sleep deprivation, and mental anguish that we continue to endure.

We believe very strongly that we must do our part to attempt everything in our power to prevent this man from continuing to breed sick puppies! His careless, inhumane business practice constitutes immediate action! Although Texas does not have Puppy Lemon Laws similar to those of other states, this problem is prevalent and needs to be publicized. Oprah recently did a show dedicated to exposing puppy mills and gave a lot of great resources to get the word out. If people do not support these neglectful sellers, then they will not be able to continue the horrible puppy factory practice!

Please help us to get the word out and end this man's unethical ways. If we can save puppies lives and spare other families the heartache, we have done justice for these two precious puppies that were taken!
