If anyone else has been ripped off by Regal, you should know that we are going to be suing them. I have also started contacted the media. These guys need to be stopped and people in the NY area need to be aware of their practices.

We had a hard time finding a mover to get us from New York City to Boston. The firms I was referred to by friends didn't have trucks available. I wish I did more on-line research before getting referred to Regal - but here I am. Regal Movers took total advantage of us and held our personal belongings hostage for an amount that was almost 4X the quote they gave us.

We had been moved across the country by a very reputable national firm 2 years ago - and handled very professionaly. Regal comouflaged themselves on the front end like one of those firms, but then completely violated us - not treating us like a customer, but like an opportunity to extort $ from a vulnerable victim.

This company seems to make a living in taking advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable - moving their home.

It started with their quote. After telling M*, their phone sales person, what I had in each and every room in the house he quoted me an hourly rate, travel time, and a total estimate of roughly $1250.00. I was asked to put a 20% deposit down to secure the services. At this time, since we wanted them to do packing, M* said that the most expensive box would cost us between $5 and $8.

Then moving day came and they arrived at our New York apartment. The leader of the crew, H*, came in and was a real smooth talker - ensuring us that everything would get done well - and asking us to stay out of his way, while he and the crew took care of packing and getting the truck loaded.

During this time, and unbeknownst to us, the crew proceeded to run up our bill using dozens of boxes that cost $20 each. Packing small items in large boxes surrounded by pounds of paper. Packing items that we even told them didn't need packing (canvasses, etc.) They ran our materials bill up THOUSANDS of dollars. NEVER EVER stopping to tell us that we had long exceeded our original quote. NEVER EVER telling us that we were going to need more than 3X the cash expected to get our personal belongings off of the truck the next day in Boston.

Then we arrive in Boston.in comes H*. He drops the invoice on us. Our quote of ~1250. It has turned into $3500!!! We freaked out... That's 3X what you quoted! That is way too extreme. We don't have that much cash! And here we are in a new city - how the heck are we supposed to get that much cash? Haim has me call the office, but conveniently M* isn't in that weekend - and there is "nothing" that can be done to the price without M*. H* gets on the phone and speaks some other language than English — hangs up, and the real scamming begins...

H* says, "look we don't usually take credit cards, but we will let you put the rest on the credit card." "I know that you have an issue with the cost here. Look you should. I won't be putting in the credit card info. Until Monday when I'm back in NY. As long as you give me the information, I don't care. I recommend that you give me the information, we'll unload, then tomorrow (Sunday) you call the credit card company and tell them not to honor the payment. Then Monday you work it out with M*."

It felt like H* understood the predicament we were in, and was trying to help us get out of it. Sure, EXCEPT HE IS A LIAR!!! They ran the card IMMEDIATELY, so when we called later to put a stop on the authorization, it had already been run through!

It doesn't end here.

So, we go with H*'s recommended strategy on blocking our payment... And he and his crew go about the process of bringing in the rest of our goods. The entire time he's telling us how it's going to take omething "special" to get our couch, dining table, and box spring up into our apartment. He leaves these items in the alley until last, tells me the couch won't make it — then he tells me he's going to hoist up the table and the box spring to the roof deck in order to get them in.

And of course..."it's going to cost you" "We'll do it, but this is outside what the company does, so you'll have to pay me and the crew an extra $500.00 cash." "Your other options are, we leave them in the alley, or we put them in our storage back in NY until you figure out what to do with them." So now here we are, stressed - exploited - and it's $500 to him now and get our stuff - or he hauls it back to NY and we start paying hundreds per month in storage???!!!??? Or better yet, leave on the streets (alley) of Boston? And once again, they have all the leverage - no cash - no table or box spring.

So, we pay the cash... Get the table and the box spring in. The couch wouldn't go, so we ended up finding a reputable company to dis-assemble it and install it in our apartment - another $200.00 later.

I call Regal - M* won't deal with me. He tells me he'll call me back that day - NO CALL. The next day I call back, and the office secretary L* goes through my bill. She says they overbilled for 8 hours, and that they will charge that amount back on the card right away. 1 Day later - No charge back - they send a release form - asking us to release them from all other obligations. FAT CHANCE!!! I call and tell her that the release form is unacceptable and that the over billing should be reimbursed right away - but she that is all they will reimburse - and only with a release. I told her that was unacceptable and that I didn't want to go to court, that I wanted to square it up fairly - and they say that's it...

So, here we go - to court!
