Used a sad sob story to get my money

Shops, Products, Services

My story is the same as everyone elses. A girl came to the door as we were headed out saying she was a single mom and was selling these magazines to earn points to go to school. She said our neighbor had just spent over $200 in magazines to donate. She even had his name on the list (he never ordered anything). Being a single mom myself, I fell for this. I ordered the Disney Adventures magazine for my daughter. I didn't have the money right away so she said I could postdate a check. Which I did, and that is my stupidity. They cashed the check the NEXT day! It has been 6 months and nothing. I tried to contact the magazine directly, however it is no longer in publication as of November, announced in August. So not only did they take my money, also causing me over $60 in bank fees, but they planned on selling me a subscription to a defunct magazine. Of course, I have left many messages with no reply at all.
