Unethical Alarm Company

I inquired about burglar alarm service online. Someone from Protect America, Inc called me & explained their service. I was pleased by what I was told & asked them to install an alarm. I agreed to a 2-year term & they brought a system to my home. What they gave me was a portable console that could be moved to any phone connection... Not wired in like in my last house.

In the first few months, I set off the alarm several times but never got a call from them to check on me. I finally called them & expressed my concern & they said they ignore the alarm if it is disarmed within a certain time. The alarm company I used to have checked out every alarm.

I set it off accidentally one night when I woke up & couldn't get back to sleep. I went out on the back porch closing the door behind me & didn't realize that the alarm was going off. When I re-entered the house, I immediately disarmed it & checked the caller ID to see if they called so I could return the call & tell them it was a false alarm. There was no call listed from Protect America. I figured I got it turned off in the time allowed & went back to bed. The sherriff's deputy pounded on my door at 3:30 AM waking everyone in the neighborhood! I called Protect America & was told they tried 2 times but got a busy signal... Weird since I have call-waiting & wasn't using either line. They said it was because they captured my line. The last alarm company never had a problem calling me & they also 'captured' my line.

I called to cancel service with them last month after 4 years of their non-service & Jennifer H informed me that they have a clause in their contract that automatically renews the service for 1 year at the end of the term. This was the first I had heard of that clause. They do NOT send anything to let the consumer know their term is coming up. Jennifer informed me that I was stuck with the year but they will cancel at the end of this year. I have to pay them for their non-service for another 10 months before they will cancel!
DO NOT get sucked into their unethical company!
