Cliff's Fire Extinguisher
Unfair business practices

I opened a new business last year & had to have an inspection from the fire marshall's office in order to get a business license. They told me that my fire extinguishers had to be certified by a fire extinguisher company. I called cliff's.

They came out & did the inspection, put me some little stickers on the units and told me i was good to go. The fire marshall came out, did my inspection and found that everything was up to code. I got my license & have been in business for over a year now.

A few weeks ago, a service guy from cliff's showed-up at my place of business unexpectidly. He told me who he was & that he was here to do my annual inspection to stay up to fire code. I said, "ok" and he proceeded. He spent approx. 2 minutes putting 2 new stickers on my fire extinguishers & presented me with a bill for $75. That struck me as excessively expensive for a couple of minutes, but it was done - what could i do?

I have since found out that i could have taken the extinguishers to numerous places locally & had the inspection done for free. I could also have had several other local companies come do an on-site inspection for FAR less money.

I guess my problem is this: i feel like i was caught totally off guard & led to believe that i had to let him do the inspection right then to prevent getting trouble with the county. I feel like the $75 cost, for 2 minutes of work (if you can call installing stickers work) coupled with the way it was presented to me, equates to unfair business practices.
