Call release if recording - but they are?

Attempting to cancel my subscription to freecreditreport.com before I get a monthly charge. Got usual sell-ups etc, finally said would process my cancellation, then asked if I was recording the call. When I said I was, she said she would have to release the call and hung up!
I called back and explained what had happened, she explained it's company policy, I can't record the call (but the opening message says they can monitor or record all calls!). I asked to speak to a manager and agreed to shut off my recording.
Supervisor came online and restated the same policy (even though I actually had turned off the recording) said she would have to release the call and hung up.
I still don't know if my account is cancelled or not, and I can't find a physical address to send a registered cancellation notice to.
