An Internet dating scam has cost Central Texans thousands of dollars.

The Better Business Bureau said it has looked into the dating service The Right One after receiving at least 25 complaints over the past three years.

The services promises hundreds of matches and does not deliver.

Dorothy Kelly of Spicewood went online looking for Christian singles was led to the service. Now she is out $2,000."Had it not been thousands of dollars, I would have chalked it up as a mistake and walked away from it, but the fact that it was has me fighting, " said victim Dorothy Kelly.

The Right One promised Kelly that 500 people met her criteria. She signed the service's hefty contract, and over the course of a year, she had two matches.

"They were calling me with people with who I had nothing in common as well as not calling me at all, " Kelly said.

Kelly said she hopes to get her money back. At the very least, though, she does not want for anyone else to fall victim.

"What I would advise is if anyone wants to do this is take the contract home, " Kelly said. "Don't sign it the first day, and really review it."

Local police officers said they are concerned about signs on the road leading people to The Right One's Web site.

"We just don't want someone to spend thousands of dollars that's not legitimate, " said Rhonda Redden of the City of Hutto Code Enforcement. "We do have a concern that there is somebody in Hutto that responded and has fallen prey to prehaps some inscrupulus business practice."

The Texas Attorney General's Office is also investigating the service. It has received 11 complaints in the past two years. The office has asked that anyone else who has had problems with the service to call and report it.

"There are very high-pressure sales tactics that are being used to actually get consumers to sign on the dotted line, " said Erin Jones of the Better Business Bureau. "There's a lot of promises made up front about the number of matches, as well."
