Poor service low quality work, misleading promises

On November 20 a fire occurred in our residence during the night. We were referred to Paul Davis Fire Restoration company by our insurance company, and Gordon McPhee, a partner of this company in Greer, came to our home to access the fire damage. He told my husband and I, that his company would be able to handle the demolition needed from burned materials, reconstruction of those same areas, and the handling, cleaning, and storing of our personal contents.

Mr. McPhee promised us timely, professional, and respectful service, and did not deliver. He used foreign workers that couldn't speak English, and couldn't communicate with us when we had questions. He never did a walk through with the estimate of repairs, after it had been requested. He did not act with respect concerning any of our personal content, and some things have been damaged by sitting much longner than needed, in the soot from the fire. They even packed up our kitchen items that were dirty and soot covered in boxes that were placed on our screened porch, and some of them contained mold and wet packing paper, when we unpacked them this past week.

According the written information given to us by this Paul Davis Company, many things that sit in soot after several weeks are permanently damaged, yet they did nothing to start cleaning the soot off of our personal content, nor removed any of it to an enviornmentaly controlled storage area. These items include a paino, antique books, furniture, and paintings. They left many items off of the original estimate, and included bogus charges for items that aren't even in our home on the repair list.

We were never presented with an written estimate for the repairs until January 2. We weren't given a work authorization to sign until late December, and the project manager, Ian Thomas, only had a pencil to sign it with. THey also did include the 5 year warranty on the work authorization promised by the insurance company... They only had a 1 year guarentee.

We fired Mr. McPhee and his crew from Paul Davis Restoration company on December 31. He did NOT handle our needs in accordance to the promises of the Paul Davis Restoration company. The cleaning job that he did do, will have to be redone by our new contractor, and we have hired another cleaning company to handle the personal content of our home. We were deeply offended at how this company dealt with us after such an emotionally disturbing event, and his company only served to make that event almost more stressful and damaging than the actual fire itself.
