Charged Excessive Amount for Order upon Cancellation

I placed an order for a gown with this company and they acknowledged it at 10:48AM. The same day, at 12:15PM, I cancelled the order. They had the nerve to charge me $260 for "consultation fees". I can't believe it. Their site does say that order which are in production when the cancellation comes through will be charged for any work done, but I find it hard to believe that they did any work on my order in 1.5 hours.

Emailed requests for clarification resulted in them telling me that they are sending me an invoice for "further billing" (no amount specified) and that if I don't pay it, they will send it to collections to damage my credit rating.

Why are they persecuting me like this? They got their $260, what did I do to them?!?
