Collections claims I owe Verizon bill from 11 years ago Bloomington ILLINOIS

I received my letter from Afni yesterday and called them this morning. They claim I owe $418 to Verizon. They told me the bill was from a land line from 1996! The service address they gave me was an old address of mine, I have moved several times since then but have retained the same phone number. The service area is Frontier and always has been NOT Verizon.

The rep I spoke to could not give me the associated phone number and told me that after numbers were re-issued to new customers, they used "dummy" numbers.???

After telling them that I did not owe this and preparing to write my dispute, I decided to search - WOW. I have drafted up my letters but after reading about this company for the last 4 hours or so, am concerned that I need to get a lawyer involved.
