J.K. Harris Misleading and unethical business practices

I met with William Duerksen, a CPA working for J.K. Harris, to help resolve a small issue with the IRS. As it turned out, I ended up owing the IRS about $125 because I filed the incorrect form. I hired J.K. Harris, and then immediately canceled their services when I found out what I did.

J.K. Harris pressured me into buying numerous services I did not need for small businesses (I am not a small business), and told me the IRS would garnish my wages and take my house. I received no services that I am aware of and in fact I could not have received any services because I never sent them my tax organizer documents.

They charged me about $3800 and refused to refund any portion of that payment because, in their words, I did not give them a 30 day notice of cancellation. I did send a request to cancel services which was in fact a 30 day notice.

They refuse to return my phone calls and have not returned the documents I did send to them. I feel I was pressured into a contract for services that I did not need, and I ended up paying J.K. Harris close to $4000 for nothing. A quick search on the web reveals that this method of operation seems fairly common for J.K. Harris.

Duerksen must have known that my tax situation was as simple and straightforward as could be. It took a CPA only 45 minutes to fill out my amended tax return with the right form, and he charged me $100. Please contact me if you feel you have also been deceived by J.K. Harris or William Duerksen.

I intend to take this information to my congressman so that this company can be investigated for fraudulent practices.
