They told me that i won the lotto, and i said it couldnt be true, than i thought its a spam Dublin

I have recieved a check in the mail on 5-18 it was for 2999.55 saying i won the lotto, so i called this place and said i was picked 3rd of winning, she wanted me to put it in my account for a clearance, and i said why she said thats what i have to do, and i said no. Than she asked me for my account info and i said no, than i just hung the phone up. Its a scam how can they do this to us. Help me what can i do to make this correct can i get anything out of this.
