West Coast Distribution ripoff Toner Scam of small non-profit in Eureka Huntington Beach

I received a call from "our" copier company "just wanting to confirm an order that has already been placed". She asked me to conform the copier model, which I did. (harmless information gathering) She then stated I wasn't ordering, just conforming an order that was "already been placed". (allying fears) She then said: "I just need a quick signature before we ship". (establishing legitimacy)

The person, identifying herself as Ms. Gray, faxed an ORDER CONFIRMATION to me requesting immediate signature and return. She followed up with a phone call within five minutes. (time pressure) I told a co-worker to take a message. When she declined to give a number, then called back a few minutes later, I knew it was a scam.

I told her I'd have to follow up with my manager and she asked the name. I gave her the first and she supplied the last. (legitimacy again) When I told her I'd go over the request with her in the morning, Ms. Gray said "Oh, I guess I should have her signature on it anyway. I'll contact her in the morning. Why don;t you just throw away that original fax." (oops, better back out of this one gracefully)
