Dillard's Department Store
Upper Management Doesn't Follow Own Rules ripoff

Shops, Products, Services

I just recently resigned my position as an Sales Manager from Dillard's and my problems with the company are still lingering.

I resigned, giving a two-week notice, following all the rules and guidelines of resigning in order to recieve my accrued vacation time that I was never given the opportunity to take. It's been three months, and they still won't give me my vacation pay they owe me according to their own rules.

Although I put in a two-week notice, i was asked to leave the day I handed in my resignation. Because I was not technicly working out my 2-weeks, I specificly asked if I would be able to be rehired in the future if I even wanted to come back as a part-time employee, and I was told that I would be eligible for re-hire. Three months later I applied to a company loosely affiliated with Dillard's and guess what? I'm in the system as not rehirable!

The specific store I worked at is corrupt and the corporate officials are doing nothing. To list just a few things going on in the store I worked at:

-Inventory figures are doctored: the OPS manager looks up the quantities supposed to be in stock and submits them during inventory.gift sets are dismantled prior to inventory and the individual contents are scanned into the system (because "sets" are often cheaper than buying them indivdually, it reflects a higher dollar amount in the system when scanned like that)

-It is an acceptable practice to holler at an employee on the sales floor, causing them to cry and ultimately quit. No exageration here, but every week there's at least 5 people in a training class. Do the math, that's 20 new employees a month, yet the store is understaffed?

-It is a known fact that the store manager drinks during breaks. This has been reported to regional and corporate officials, and nothing has been done.

-It is policy that if you have more than 9 tardies you will be terminated. BUT if you open more than 2 credit cards every day you work, you can have as many tardies as you want. Again, this is not an exageration; I have seen it done.

-If you are a single person with a pet and your pet has to go to the vet for an emergency and you call out for the day (or come in late), even if you call and explain, you will NOT be excused. BUT if you are the store manager (or any part of the management team) you can take the day off or come in late whenever you want. Literally, the day after an employee was terminated for exceeding tardies because she had to take her dog to the vet, the store manager took the day off to spend the day with their dog who was recouperating from an operation.

-If you do not hit your SPH (Sales Per Hour) goal by 90% you will get a pay reduction. Fair enough, but if a Pacesetter (someone who sells over $250,000 in a year's time) gets a pay reduction isn't it obvious that the goals are set a bit too high. (FYI: there's only about 4 or 5 Pacesetters per store.)

If you are a job seeker, avoid Dillard's at all cost. If you are a consumer, don't let their low prices fool you, the merchandise is low quality and often times used.

Bottom line, go to Macy's, Parisians or any other major department store chain if you must shop or work at a department store.
