Deceptive Practices Free UPGrade to have my phone fixed Wallingford, Albany, Tucson Connecitcut, New York, Arizona

I have been with verizonwirless since Oct. I expected that the contract would expire in Oct. I had problem with the phone that I had. I went to the verizon store (if I remember correctly, one in Manchester, Connecticut) to have my phone fixed. The Technician informed me that instead of having the phone fixed I could take their free upgrade which was on my contract. No one informed me that I would be entering into another 2-year agreement.

I assume that I am the naive customer, because I was not aware that if I received an upgrade from them I would be place into another 2-year agreement. I tried to go to another cellphone company one 1/11. I called Verizon to make sure the phone was cancelled and ask them if the contract was expired to make sure it was. This is when the customer service person shocked me when telling me I had a contract with Verizon that expires in 2008 and was told that I had a 2 year contract with the company. I asked them how that was possible. They told me because I took their free upgrade. I beleive that this is deceptive practices. The customer service people that upgraded my phone never informed me once that I was entering into another two year agreement. I do not think this is fair. I don't think I should have to pay these people $175 for not informing me that this was not them fixing my phone.

The worse part about this whole thing is that I have been paying Verizon Wireless $5 every month for insurance to replace my phone should it break. This is what I thought he was saying to me when he said I could have this phone replaced.
