Rips off widow on fixed income

My mother recently discovered a monthly withdrawal from her checking account by Northern Leasing. She had no clue what this was so when the bank investigated they discovered it was for a credit card machine that my father had leased for his sport shop.

My father was killed in an accident the day before Thanksgiving 10 years ago. My husband and I closed his shop and returned all merchandise and equipment along with a copy of the death certificates to all the companies he had dealings with.

It seems Northern Leasing was not satisfied and repeatedly withdrew money from my mothers checking account. She immediately stopped payment, and the bank was only able to recover 2 withdrawals. As soon as the bank was able to recover $118.00, Northern Leasing turned around and tried to deduct money from her checking account again.

My mother is hearing disabled and the official at the bank spoke to a Mr. Jason Mahoney. He would not do anything until he had my fathers social security number. My 71 year old mother drove home to get my fathers social security number. Once she returned to the bank Mr. Mahoney basically accused my mother of lying and they did not believe my father was dead. The bank then had to turn around and obtain a copy of my father's death certificate and fax it to Northern Leasing.

The bank asked for a copy of the lease agreement that was made with my father. This was on November 6. It is now January 8 and we have not heard one word from Northern Leasing or Mr. Mahoney.

Because of this we had to close out my mother's checking account and open a new one. Her only source of income is the social security she gets from my father, therefore we had to deal with changing her deposit information with social security, which I might add was an ordeal. My mother is not in the best of health and stress is not what she needs. When she went to the Dr. He asked her what was going on and increased her dosage for high blood pressure medicine.

We do not have exact figures but Northern Leasing basically stole over $7,000 of which my mother could have used.
