Fraudulent billing through Operator Assist Network to Verizon for a call not made Unknown

My current Verizon phone bill contains a $7.14 charge for a directory assistance call I did not make. This charge was placed on my Verizon phone bill by DIR ASSIST NV with no address or phone number, other than the 101 515-8000 that carries a $7.14 charge for one minute.

Apparently, this bogus charge was passed on to Verizon to place on my bill by the billing center, OAN (800-944-9646).

Verizon will not remove the charge from my bill. OAN says that they will give me a credit, but that this credit will not show up with Verizon for one or two billing cycles.in the meantime, I must pay Verizon.

From the Internet, I see that the exact same thing has been done to other people by the same company - - DIR ASSIST NV. I sense that someone is getting rich by ripping off many people in the hopes that they don't catch this bogus charge; or if they do, they still get their money for at least two months, assuming that they do reimburse the charge.

Verizon is totally non-helpful! Is is my impression that Verizon, or any phone company, could easily verify if my phone number had made the billed call to the given number (101-515-8000) as a specific date and time are provided (11/24/06 at 4:16 pm).

And, this company, DIR ASSIST NV, remains hidden from me.
