Annualcreditreport.com allows consumers to check their credit history for free each year. So they say.

I logged on to get my equifax report but it said before I get my free report, I need to have a credit card on file but I wouldn't be charged. Yeah right! Next thing I know, I'm charged for their credit protection services. I never even authorized this service. There have been many reports on this site but I looked to late.

Don't give out any credit card info. To thse companies unless you want their credit protection because they will bill you regardless.
