Ripoff, rude management along with fraud

On Sunday about 1:30 PM I had an encounter with the cashier and the store's manager.

I was eating over by the snack area and I noticed someone had entirely left their newspapers on a table (I made sure that nobody else would be claiming it). I walk over to the register ready for an item, but since the newspapers have been paid for already (by whoever left them on the table), then I figure they're mine to claim.

In short the cashier said she'd have to charge me for the papers which is, in effect, doublebilling. I wouldn't stand for that (in the interim she held onto the papers). I also pointed out that one of the papers were dated for Saturday which made no difference to the cashier. The manager came over and after explaining everything to him (including the older paper), all he said was the papers had to be returned to the store's supplier for the store's credit.

Considering there's security with store cameras to keep an eye on things, somebody could have checked it out further. Also considering that the store is arbitrary (they don't question BIC pens you carry around in your pocket which the store sells or the belt I wear on my pants which the store sells too) I feel that this store was being petty and arbitrary and warrants less business from me and others who share my concerns.
