Deceptive telemarketers/ripoff tricked and lied to us

I was contactd by telemarketers who informed me that they would send a phone that would work anywhere in the US, Guaranteed! I was told that I would have 30 days to try the phone and return it, If I decided to send the phone back I would only be billed for the mintes used.

Iwas aso told that I would be able to call them upon reciept of the phone and change billing plans, plans were to start at 19.99. Upon recieving the phone I tried to use it 4 times, I was able to dial a number but no contact at the other end.

Then I called customer service and was told that if I returned the phone prior to the use of 30 minutes (not days) I would be in the "trial period" I had agreed to. At that time I requested a return slip and immediately upon reciept of said label returned the phone. Now I have received a bill for 33.99 for nothing.

I called customer service and was told that there was a 250.00 fee on the account for cancelling the contract as well as the bill I should not have received. The Gentleman (Wayne)"said he would request that the 250.00 be reversed since it was to be a trial period but I still owed the 33.99.

I informed him the same info I am giving here and advised him that I will not pay this bill and requested that I get a letter of confirmation that the issue had been resolved. That was well over a week ago and to be honest I feel my quest for resolution has only just begun.

Why are these people allowed to misrepresent themselves through telemarketing and them bill you? I know this will end up on my credit report and that is what really upsets me... Its like forcing you to pay extortion monies just to maintain your credit!
