Lost or kept payment, poor follow thru from customer service

For various reasons, I was a month late on my payment so dropped off a payment for $151.00 in the form of a money order in the drop box of the local Mediacom office. Several days later, I received a disconnect notice so call the company (it's a nationwide number-not the local office) and was told that payment had not been received.

The next day, I went to local office and spoke to both ladies that were there. Neither one could find the payment. Since I paid with a money order, I was told that it would take up to thirty days to verify payment. I was told by these ladies to keep coming into the office so that disconnect would not happen. I was told that it would keep being extended until I received verification of payment or refund for an uncashed money order.

Several days later, a technician stopped at the house, said that he was told by the company (out of state office) to pick up the equipment and disconnect but that he was not going to disconnect as there was a note on the order saying not to and explaining that payment was being researched. I called the nationwide number yet again and was told that I would have to go into the office to have the date entended yet again.in the meantime, I received the current month's bill with the past due charges on it and an amount for the current month that was $20.00 more than I had been paying.

When I went into the local office the next afternoon, I spoke to one of the ladies that I had spoken to before. She stated that she could't help as the other lady was researching it and stated that this other lady would call me the next day to update me. When I asked why my bill had gone up, I was told that I was on a promo and that it had expired. I was never told that it was a promo and was upset because now I was paying as much for a rather basic service as I would be for all of the services with another company such as Direct TV.

I never received a call from the lady that was supposed to call me. The next day, someone else stopped by while I was at work and picked up the euipment and disconnected our service. My household will definitely be going with another service but I feel that I was treated very badly.

My payment went directly into the office drop box and it had to have been lost due to imcompetence.in addition, the inconvenence is irritating. I would be interested in hearing from others. Is this something that a class action suit could be filed for. I plan on letting the people in the community know how poor the service is and I plan to do everything that I can to encourage the addition of another cable company.
