On March 17, I ordered 2 Motorola cell phones through Inphonic.com because they advertised 4 rebates on them totaling $300.00.
They made numerous attempts to convince me there were problems establishing my service with Cingular in an effort to coerce me into accepting service with Liberty Wireless (THEIR wireless service) and a Nokia phone with a $20 MIR.
They did not disclose their STRINGENT rebate terms at the time of the sale. (Had they done so, I would have cancelled my order immediately)
I waited the required 180 days and submitted my 4 SEPARATE rebates as instructed. After mailing, remailing, faxing and REPEATEDLY calling and E-mailing (receiving different person & response each time), I learned the REBATE CENTER HAD NO AUTHORITY TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE and I needed to speak with Inphonic. However, they could not provide me with their phone number and neither did the Inphonic site
I obtained a phone number from the BBB site and called several times getting a different person each time and the same runaround.
Online, I found an E-Mail address for Doreen Dennis in the Office of the President, whom someone said in their review had been helpful in a similar situation. I E-mailed her and she responded promptly offering to try to help. When she did not respond as promised and further E-Mails to her got no response, I attempted to reach her by phone. Errol in her offce was to give my number to her. No call back, but she E-mailed me that my "Rebate remains denied"
On March 9, BBB site showed 1771 complaints over last 36 months with 844 over last 12 months. On May 1, it showed 997 over last 12 months-153 more complaints in less than 2 months. On May 9, it showed 91 more complaints in only 8 days.
This indicates to me that they have always empolyed these deceptive practices and they have absolutely no intention of changing them!
On May 9, feeling I had exhausted every possible avenue within Inphonic to reach an acceptable resolution, I forwarded a Letter of Complaint to the Federal Trade Commission, Arizona Attorney General, Better Business Bureau and Cingular. I E-mailed Motorola, MSNBC and our local NBC affiliate the information. Now, I am posting online reviews/complaints.
