Motor Carrier ripoff Doesn't Pay Bills

This company is a motor carrier that we have signed rate confirmations from. They hauled direct loads of ice from us during the 2005 hurricane season. They got paid thousands upon thousands of dollars, they owe us $500.00 for securing the loads from our shipper. They have made no effort to pay this debt. Every time we call to collect, we are told, "we don't even know if we are going to be in business tomorrow." I suppose, it is easier for us to lose our house and not be able to feed our families than it is to pay their bills. The owners, Fran and Sara, whom we booked the loads with, assured us that once they were paid on their freight bills, we would be paid shortly after—that was last July!!! This company is a joke! Brokers, shippers, contract carriers: BEWARE!!
