Department Store ripoff

We received a Christmas gift that was bought from this store. We did not have a receipt. But it had target written on it. Assuming we would just be given a gift card so we could purchase something else at the store. We were informed that no gift card would be given we had to go to the same dept. The item was bought in. And it had to be 1 item that was equal to or more.

I thought the girl was kidding. Stated it was store policy. We went back to the dept which was apparently hardware. They had 3 half rows to pick from. There was nothing for us to choose from especially with them requiring it only be 1 item. I asked for a store manger who also said yep that was there store policy. Stated it was for inventory purposes, and there was nothing he could do. We looked at the policy board at customer service and it did not say any of this.

I will never shop at this store again. I was not willing to go to the person who gifted it to us and say sorry we do not like it do you have the receipt. I have returned things at Walmart and gotten gift cards. And Sears last year gave me a full refund without even a receipt. I feel this is poor customer service and the consumer should be careful shopping at these stores. I was more then willing to buy something from this store but it was crazy they were dictating what we had to buy.: (
