Chaparral Moving
Ripoff Changing the price in the middle of the move, or threatening to leave items

I received a flat rate quote to do my move from Chaparral Moving. I do acknowledge that I underestimated my items (wasn't done deliberately), but they told me that the price would be adjusted when the movers arrived, so this wasn't a big deal. The original quote was for $429 and the new adjusted price was $525 (or thereabouts) after the mover analyzed my items and made the appropriate adjustment. This was done 10 minutes prior to the start of the move. We agreed to this new price and I told them to proceed. Only after a couple of hours and nearly when the loading was finished, the mover told me that there were more items that we had estimated and that the new cost would be an additional $150 on top of the $525 that we agreed upon a couple hours earlier. This became over $250 from the original quote (which was for a 5 hour move). The move took a total of 6.25 hours. Nevertheless, in my opinion this is bad business practice. We made an agreement and that agreement was changed at the point where I had no other option. I had another quote that would have done the whole job for $531 ($85/hour, minimum of 3 hours). Once I agreed to do the job with Chaparral Moving for $525, I expected them to honor the contract.

Nevertheless, it is only $150 that we are talking about. The movers did a satisfactory job. One of the movers complained a great deal about the items and the stairs and the one saying they would have to leave my items or pay the additional amount. The other mover was exceptional and well worth the money.

I emailed a few emails to Ron Stanley and he did not seem to understand what I was saying. He accused me of trying to rip them off by underestimating the move and expecting them to move my items for free. The management at Chaparral Moving is not a company I will ever deal with again. Ron Stanley threatened me with legal action if I were to write an explanation of what happened and then post it on the web. These are his words "ALSO IF YOU STILL FEEL THE NEED TO NOTIFY ANY FRAUD PROTECTION SITES AND I BECOME AWARE OF IT, I WILL CONCIDER THIS SLANDER AND MAY PERSUE WHATEVER LEGAL RIGHTS I HAVE." This is not the kind of guy I would ever willingly want to do business with in the future.

The following is something else that ron stanley accused me of "i'm little confused about your theory of consumer fraud when we can say the same about you. You did not give us an accurate listing of your inventory and you assumed that when we got there that we would move any additional items for free. And some times we do, if there are just a few!

He apparently doesn't listen to what I am saying. Oh, well... I hope you won't have to deal with a moving company such as this.
