National Moving Network, Access Van Lines
National Moving Network, and Access Van Lines SUCK - MAJOR RIPOFF, Maspeth-New York

Shops, Products, Services

I moved from Tennessee to Alabama, very short move. I moved from a relatively large house. I received several quotes from movers within the city in Tennessee, and then I went online and found National Moving Network, BIG MISTAKE.

National Moving Network sent me back a quote that was more than all the other movers, but they never sent anyone out to look at the move. I spoke to one of the brokers Gerard who was handling my case, and I told him they were higher than anyone.

He wanted me to fax back to him the lowest quote I had from one of the other movers, and he said he would try to beat their price. He spoke to a few people and then he sent me another quote, it was cheaper, so I went with National Moving Network. I paid a $700 deposit to get the ball rolling. The actual movers were from New York, Access Van Lines - owner Daniel. They were suppose to begin moving me on March 6th, they did not show up until March 7th. They had to do all the packing. When they first showed up, it was only 2 men. The first thing he wanted to do was to discuss a tip for them. He said their tip was approximately 10% of what the total move was, but it was up to me if I wanted to do that or not.

I told him we would discuss this later. Then, he told me that according to how much the weight of the truck was after the move that was how much the additional charge was. I was not aware that the an additional charge would be added, all of the weight should have been estimated in the quote.

After the packing was complete, approximately 8 hours later, they wanted me to sign a scale ticket that had no weights on them. I was very hesitant about signing it, but I did it anyway, and made them give me a copy of what I was signing. The next day they called and told me I had to pay an additional $1400 from what was quoted.

During this time, I was very upset. I called National Moving Network customer service department - Kimberly. They were no help at all. Gerard, the original broker, would not even talk with me. The truck arrives in Tuscaloosa, and the movers inform me that they cannot get their trailer through the entrance way of my new resident. They told me I was going to have to rent a UHAUL and they were going to charge me $68/hour to shuttle my things back and forth to my resident.

Once again, I am upset. I had to rent a storage unit for my things to be unloaded in. But this is the kicker. I only paid them the amount that Gerard and I had agreed upon initially, because they did not complete the move. The movers very rude boss, Daniel, told the movers they could not get my things off the truck until he received additional payment.

Once again, I called useless National Moving Network, since they were the ones who coordinated the move, and all they did were place on hold for long periods of time. I had to do a Western Union credit card transaction for the additional $1400 before I could even get my things. The owner of Access Van Lines, Daniel, made me wait over 2 hours before he went and picked up the money from Western Union.

After the movers finally got the word from their boss to go ahead and unload the truck, at 9:00 pm, the movers very rapidly got my things off the truck and stored them in the storage room, breaking a few of my things. And after everything was done, they had the nerves to ask me about their TIP. When they came to me in Tennessee, it was nothing on the trailer, but when they unloaded my things, there were some things on the truck they said were not mine. I made them give me a copy of the entire inventory list, which they did not want to do.
